Our faculty conduct research on important issues of fundamental interest to Hawaii, the US, the Asia-Pacific region, and the World.  Our research on Hawaii is assessing the health status of the population, identifying gaps in health insurance, improving student surveys, and improving our understanding of the history of our islands.  Research on East Asia is helping to improve our understanding of changing gender roles, the evolution of the family, and the emergence of very low fertility.  Our research is influencing policy formulation at the highest levels related to HIV/AIDS in Southeast Asia and population policy in China.
